Ad indicare il tema del quadro č stato Gedeon Raday (1713-1792), padrone del palazzo e fondatore della biblioteca. Il quadro rappresenta Apollo seduto, fra le opere dei poeti epici che ebbero importanza per l'Ungheria. A sinistra c'č il libro Sirena del mare Adriatico di Miklós Zrínyi con al di sotto i poemi epici di Omero e Tasso. A destra quello di Janus Pannonius, piů che altro a causa delle Annales perdute - sotto si vede: Virgilio e davanti a destra Milton, Klopstock e Voltaire - quest'ultimo certo a causa dell'Henriade. Davanti al centro č rappresentato il volume dell'epopea di Istvan Gyongyosi. L'iconografia del quadro contiene un programma completo di storia letteraria, perché č stato Gedeon Raday il letterato a riscoprire Zrínyi e Gyongyosi, rappresentanti dell'antica poesia epica ungherese, inserendoli nel contesto europeo dei loro antecedenti, aggiungendo loro i poeti epici inglesi tedeschi e francesi. Appoggiato sui volumi di Virgilio e Tasso si legge Zrínyi: ne risulta dunque il titolo del volume, il virgiliano "Arcades ambo" che annunzia il carattere arcadico tanto della poesia ungherese quanto di quella italiana, oltre il fatto che queste hanno dei legami indissolubili fra di loro e con gli antecedenti antichi. .
