Aggiungi al carrello[Reprint]. 2 full page coloured maps, 48 pages of black and white photographic illustrations (mainly two to a page), each with a tissue guard and captioned in English. Attractive light green patterned silk covered boards bound Japanese style, contrasting silk tassel ties slightly faded, paper title label laid down on the upper cover, 19 x 26cm. Some occasional time toning on the reverse of the plates, silk worn with a little loss along upper joint and corners, presented in worn original card slipcase, an attractive copy. This photographic record shows the Japanese troops in battle in and around Shanghai. The photographer who captured these shots was an eye-witness to the action as the street scenes and troops in the countryside show. Most photographs show the fighting close up from a Japanese point of view. Includes many recognisable street scenes.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. First edition. Oblong 8vo. pp. [1, title-page] + 2 leaves of maps + 48 leaves captioned in Japanese and English + [1, colophon]; slightly shaken in the original cloth with string ties, paper label to upper cover, minor wear to label and to extremities of binding. This printed photographic album records scenes during the early months of 1932, when Japanese forces took control of Shanghai. The so-called Shanghai Incident developed after an attack on five Japanese Buddhist monks escalated into anti-Japanese protests in parts of the city. On the 28th January, Japanese planes set off from aircraft carriers to bomb Shanghai, the first major aircraft carrier action in East Asia. The hostilities between Japanese and Chinese forces prompted the League of Nations to send representatives to broker a ceasefire, culminating in the Shanghai Ceasefire Agreement signed on May 5. The present album, a Japanese propaganda publication, shows troops in action, some of the damage wrought by the hostilities, and related scenes.
