Aggiungi al carrelloSize: 253 x 180mm. Some foxing to margins. Line engraving after a portrait by William Hogarth (1697-1764), originally engraved by James Basire (1730-1802). Morell is depicted half-length seated at a table, facing left, wearing a partly buttoned jacket, cravat and wide-brimmed hat. On the table are four books, sheets of paper (one with 'Aet. 60', the other with 'THESARUS') and an ink pot; Morell is about to use his right hand to write with a quill. He is seated on a chair, a curtain is draped from the top centre to behind the chair and in the top left corner are some organ pipes. From behind the curtain appears a coat of arms and below that a medal on a thread hangs from the wall. The letters after Morell's name refer to his Professorship of Sacred Theology and to being Secretary of the Society of Antiquaries. Hogarth's original drawing of 1762 is in the Horne Collection in Florence.

Few mariginal tearsIllustration to the the 17th Century work ofSamuel Butler who was influenced by Rabelais and Cervantes' Don Quixote. While in Cervantes, the noble knight although being mocked is supposed to draw readers' sympathies, Hudibras is offered nothing but derision. The title comes from the name of a knight in Edmund Spenser's Faerie Queene who is described as "not so good of deeds as great of name" and "more huge in strength than wise in work". Spenser in turn probably got the name from the legendary king of the Britons, Rud Hud Hudibras.Made by T. Cook after W. Hogarth. Thomas Cook (1744-1818) was a London engraver. Thomas was a student of Ravenet, the well-known French engraver who resided in London at the time. He has copied the entire engraved work of Hogarth, which was published under the name 'Hogarth Restored' from 1806. William Hogarth (1697-1764) was an English painter, printmaker, social critic and cartoonist.
