Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book documents the rich history of Verona, a city in Northern Italy, and situates it within the broader history of Italy. The author begins by describing the pre-Roman origins of the city, then traces its development through the Roman period, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and up to the present day. The book explores the political, economic, and cultural transformations that Verona underwent over time, and examines the impact of significant historical events on the city's development. The author draws on a wealth of primary sources, including chronicles, letters, and official documents, to provide a comprehensive and detailed account of Verona's past. The book provides an incisive examination of the influence of art and architecture on the development of the city, exploring the role of notable figures such as Cangrande della Scala, and the impact of their patronage on Verona's cultural landscape. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Prima edizione
With magnificent woodcuts including the extraordinary folding plate of the amphitheater (often lacking) and two printers devices, portrait of the author, and architectural woodcuts difficult to count (at least 27; many double-page, folding, and text illustrations. The map of the area around Verona found in some copies is lacking. Small folio, old quarter sheep and paste-grain decorated paper sides. First edition. Mortimer, Italian Sixteenth Century Books, 462. Lacking two text leaves as noted above; one leaf with old underlining to text; some wear at the folds and rubbing to the binding; but clean and a most impressive publication which appears to vary in collation from copy to copy. The first printed book on the history and antiquities of Verona, complicated bibliographically since the larger illustrations are printed on multiple woodblocks with extensions, some of which are plates for the purpose of collation and some not. The present copy lacks two leaves of text (M 3-4; ff 39 and 40).
