The 1905 is an annus mirabilis for the history of Western culture. Albert Einstein published his first work on the theory of relativity and Max Weber essays the Protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism, while the previous year had given to press The "objectivity" of cognitive social science and social policy. The methodologies, worldviews, disciplinary paradigms are subjected to a review by the authors so powerful that change the course of history. A hundred years later, in the third millennium features a new technological revolution, from an unstoppable political and economic globalization, but mostly from a clash of cultures and interests, masquerading as religious conflicts between the West and Islam, it's worth rethinking by the great German sociologist and ask how much it is still useful to interpret the current conflicts. Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. First edition. 12mo. (16),118,(8 blanks). Recent full brown leather spine in six compartments, gilt; antique marbled paper in a non-pareil design inlaid on the boards; double marbled endpapers. A fine copy. With Toscano's tribute to Marcilhac-sur-Célé, the Cryptae Massiliacensis Topographia, present at pp. 119-124. In Latin Blank pages at the end, apparently added later, are an index of authors in a contemporary hand. One leaf seems to be excised. Contains epigrams on 200 Italian writers, poets, scholars, etc. from Dante Alighieri to Giovanni Carga, each with a short biography of the person honored. It is considered a valuable source of information on Italian culture and intellectual life in the 16th century. It is also a work of art in its own right, with its elegant Latin prose and its insightful and often witty portraits of the individuals it celebrates. It was later reprinted in Hamburg in 1730. The book is dedicated to Antonio Ebrard Sansuplicianum, Bishop and Count of Cahors, France. In the dedication, Toscano expresses his admiration for Italian culture and his hope that his book will help to spread knowledge of Italian writers and scholars throughout Europe. .

Condizione: Moyen. "Recueil de trois textes du XVIe siècle : Diversorum veterum poetarum in Priapum lusus, Peplus Italiae, Juvenilia | Virgile, Giovanni Matteo Toscano, Marc-Antoine de Muret | Venice: in aedibus haeredum aldi (successeurs d'Alde Manuce), 1534, Lutetiae : ex. offic. 1°) Diversorum veterum poetarum in Priapum lusus, Venice: in aedibus haeredum aldi. 1534. In: Revue de l'Art, 1985, n° 69, p. 15). 2°) Peplus Italiae Jo. M. Toscani opus, in quo illustres viri grammatici, oratores, historici, poëtae, mathematici, philosophi, medici, jurisconsulti. eorumque patriae, professiones, et litterarum monumenta tum carmine tum soluta oratione recensentur. Suivi de Cryptae Massiliacensis topographia. Giovanni Matteo Toscano.
