Both volumes are in very good condition. Minimal wear to the grey cloth boards. Interiors are clean and unmarked (save for aforementioned inscription). Dust jackets are good to very good. Some general edge wear. A touch of loss to the top of the spine of the jacket for volume one. Else in excellent shape. Now wrapped in protective jacket covers. The spines are faded, with patches of light and dark to the spine of Volume I. There is very light occasional rubbing, noticeable to the heads of the spines and to the… extremities. There are a few scattered marks to the boards, which are generally very bright. The bindings are generally firm; there is a strain to the front hinge of Volume II at the title page. The leaves are a little foxed and heavily spotted throughout, particularly to plates. With illustrations throughout by Louis Chalon; each volume complete with ten plates. Collated, complete.Illustrated by the French artist Louis Chalon. Many of his illustrations were used in periodicals, including 'La Vie Parisienne', 'L'Illustration', and 'Figaro Illustre'.Volume I is illustrated with nine plates by Chalon, and volume II with six. Collated, complete.Giovanni Boccaccio's work consists of a frame narrative containing one hundred tales told by a group sheltering in a secluded villa to escape the Black Death. Bumping to back strip heads and tails, with back strips significantly age toned. Light tide marks to board tails. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, but generally clean and bright.
