This copy is in as very good, unmarked condition bound in blue cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine. This copy is bright, tight, white and square. The unclipped dust wrapper has a small area of loss to the head of the back panel but is still very good condition. Lavishly illustrated with 95 full page colour plates and 21 full page black and white plates with detailed information describing the origins of the images as a whole and general background. This is followed by detailed commentary about each of the 95 full page colour plates and finally information about the engravings that followed on from the paintings. These engravings were not a success during Turner's lifetime and the project was abandoned early on. This is a detailed study presented in a user-friendly manner and supported by a generous collection of colour prints and reproductions of a selection of engravings. It is worth mentioning, of course, that the colour printing is pretty good and good enough to be completely functional as regards appreciating Turner's art. Many of the paintings come from rarely seen private collections. Ref UUU 1.
