Legatura coeva in piena pergamena rigida con nervi passanti alle cuffie e titoli manoscritti sul dorso, tagli spruzzati blu, 4to cm18x23.5, pp (8) 288 (16), frontespizio in nero e rosso. Oltre ai quattro trattati del giurista olandese Arnold Vinnen (1588-1657) il volume contiene due orazioni del figlio Simon: DE CONSTANTIA JURIS… NATURAE (1648) e DE SAPIENTIA ROMANORUM (1651). Esemplare genuino e in buono stato di conservazione, senza scritte, strappi, gore ecc; alcuni fascicoli un po' bruniti, piccola mancanza di pergamena sull'angolo inferiore del piatto posteriore, un paio di forellini di tarlo sui piatti e canalini ma volume solido e segatura salda.

Zeitgenössischer Pergamentband auf fünf Bünden geheftet. Arnold Vinnius, in der Nähe von Den Haag geboren, studierte in Leiden, wo er auch1612 oder 1613 promoviert wurd…e. Erst 1633 wurde er dort zum Extraordinarius, und drei Jahre später zum Ordinarius ernannt. Bis zu dieser Zeit war er Rektor an der Lateinschule von Den Haag. Unterdessen hatte er seine erste juristische Schrift: Iurisprudentia contracta 1624 publiziert. Am 1. September 1657 verstarb Vinnius. Seinen enormer Nachruhm verdankt Vinnius dem opus magnum, dem Institutionenkommentar, der erstmals 1642 erschienen ist und der auch nach seinem Tode in vielen Auflagen den akademischen Rechtsunterricht in ganz Europa prägte, auch in Venedig, im Mutterland des Ius Romanum wurde der Kommentar neu aufgelegt. Aus diesem Grunde wird Vinnius neben Johannes Voet, Gerard Noodt und Anton Schulting zu den großen, europäisch wirksamen Rechtsprofessoren der Universität Leiden gezählt. Auch im 18. Jahrhundert hielt die Nachfrage nach dem Vinnius an, was vor allem ein Verdienst des deutschen Rechtsgelehrten Johann Gottlieb Heineccius (1681-1741) war, dessen Werke ebenfalls europaweit verbreitet und geschätzt waren. 1723 nahm Heineccius einen Ruf an die holländische Universität von Franecker an, das er zwei Jahre später in Richtung Frankfurt an der Oder verließ. Während eines Aufenthaltes in Holland verfasste Heineccius seinen Kommentar zum Institutionenlehrbuch von Vinnius, das später auch in Venedig, Neapel und Lyon erschien, ein letzter Hinweis auf die europaweite Verbreitung des Lehrbuches. Am 10. März 1726, noch in Franecker verweilend, schloss Heineccius seine praefatio ab. Wie bei Heineccius üblich und beliebt, gibt er einen Überblick über die Justinianische Gesetzgebung, auch wenn schon viele Werke ausführlich darüber gehandelt haben: Cum multa a viris etiam doctissimis reprehendi solent in operosa illa ac praeclara Justiniani legislatione. Später nimmt er Bezug auf die vorangegangenen Institutionenkommentare, etwa dem von Schneidewin, oder von Cujas oder Giphanius. Den letzten Kommentar dieser Art habe Vinnius verfasst. In der Tradition der eleganten Iurisprudenz folgen dem Institutionentext zunächst textkritische Anmerkungen: Notae, erst danach der juristische Kommentar: Commentarius. Vinnius zu verstehen ist uns leichter gemacht worden durch die von Reinhard Zimmermann initiierte und von Klaus Wille vorgenommene Übersetzung des Schuldrechtsteils von Vinnius`Institutionenkommentar.
