Heil Hitler!" Georg Vollerthun war Theaterkapellmeister in Prag, am Theater des Westens in Berlin und in Mainz und lebte seit 1905 als Gesangspädagoge und…Musikkritiker in Berlin. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg zog er sich auf sein Gut in Bissenmoor (Holstein) zurück, um sich ganz kompositorischer Tätigkeit zu widmen. Sein Schaffen konzentriert sich im wesentlichen auf das Lied und die Oper. Während er sich mit der melodisch betonten Gestaltung seiner Lieder bewußt von Hugo Wolf fernhält, sind seine heute vergessenen Opern unverkennbar geprägt vom Vorbild Richard Wagners" (MGG XIV, 1).
