Like most people who have attached themselves to the land for fifty years, the author of these 320 pages (includes Epilogue) has a high reverence for all things associated with the land : pine trees, coyotes, sandhill cranes, eagles, cows, meadowlarks, swallows and chipmunks. He gives road builders short shrift and doesn't have much respect for the U.S. Forest Service. He and his family have run a cow outfit near Chiloquin, Oregon for most of fifty years.
