Chapters cover manners and customs, characters, professions, Moslem institutions, feasts and festivals, and trips around the town. Noting that existing guide books and works on manners and customs "fail to interpret local variations and customs peculiar to a certain district or period", the author seeks here to make readers familiar with "the daily life of our Arab neighbours, and encourages them to increase their contact, thus leading to better understanding between the inhabitants of this country". He bases this on 5 years of close observation in the Old City. Some of the material had been previously published in the Palestine Post.
