In contrast, later narratives reflect individual archaeological evaluations and more personal reflections, showcasing a shift in the pilgrim experience. The aftermath of the Crusader's conquest of Jerusalem in 1099 shaped pilgrimage practices, influencing access to the Dome of the Rock and resulting in minor variances between Eastern and Western customs, such as differing visits to Greek and Latin monasteries and alternative interpretations of Emmaus.This compilation, retranslated with updated insights from archaeological findings, enhances the understanding of these texts, which were previously translated by the Palestine Pilgrim?s Text Society.
