Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Later Printing. (no dust jacket) [moderate wear to bottom edges and top corners of covers, one-time owner's name on reverse of ffep]. (B&W photographs) Cobb's alleged autobiography, revealed in the ensuing years to have been largely fraudulent from the get-go. The book itself was published a couple of months after his death, and the following year co-author Stump published an expose-type article in the magazine "True," purporting to tell the "true story" behind this "True Record," in which he described the difficulties of the collaboration, and in the process pretty much cemented Cobb's reputation as the meanest s.o.b. to ever set foot on a baseball diamond. He further compounded things some 30-odd years later by publishing yet *another* book about Cobb, in which he doubled down on the negativity (and which in turned served as the basis for the movie COBB, starring Tommy Lee Jones). Problem was, as several later researchers have discovered, that Stump was quite the fabulist, and that many of his claims (such as Cobb's purported deathbed confession of having murdered a man in 1912) were made up and then "authenticated" by forged documents, including Cobb's diaries. The most recent book to try and cut through all this crap and set the record straight is Charles Leerhsen's "Ty Cobb: A Terrible Beauty," which debunks much of the accepted knowledge about Cobb, and largely succeeds in presenting a more balanced and reliable assessment of his complex (but not monstrous) personality.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. Burt Silverman (illustratore). Fifth Printing [stated]. vii, [1], 248 pages. Index. Frontis illustrations. Illustrations. Tournament Victories. Inscribed by Snead on fep. Samuel Jackson Snead (May 27, 1912 - May 23, 2002) was an American professional golfer who was one of the top players in the world for the better part of four decades. Snead won a record 82 PGA Tour events, including seven majors. He never won the U.S. Open, though he was runner-up four times. Snead's nickname was "Slammin' Sammy", and he was admired by many for having the so-called "perfect swing," which generated many imitators. Snead was famed for his folksy image, wearing a straw hat, and making such statements as "Keep close count of your nickels and dimes, stay away from whiskey, and never concede a putt." He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974, and received the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998. This is the incredible true story of how a poor kid who grew to become one of Americas most talented and respected professional golf champions in the 20th century. Each chapter ends with short comments on the various aspects of golf, getting right down to simple illustrations and valuable pointers that could only come from a golf master. Sam writes about how his elder brother's golfing drew him into the game. "Slammin' Sam" goes on to become a pro and a sensation in the year 1934. Sam went on to win 3 PGA championships, 3 Masters and a British Open, apart from a myriad of other titles. Sam's account of his golfing career comes with many hilarious and not-so hilarious incidents. He writes about telling the President a thing or two about golf and other similar and remarkable stories. Sam lays down chunks of it throughout the book, dealing with all major issues like putting, chipping and sand traps. Sam Snead is gracious enough to pack a book with wisdom about his time on the green.
