This edition was first published in Shanghai in 1930, and this is a second impression from three years later. This edition adds the illustrations and contains many additional recipes, such as tomato-flowers soup, San Si Choi, gingered pig's feet, lobster chop suey, and Peking Dust Pudding. Interestingly, the explanatory notes page contains the same list of New York groceries found in the 1927 edition, suggesting that this book, too, was intended for a New York audience. Revised & enlarged edition, 2nd printing, of this work first published in 1927, by the first Chinese woman to publish a Chinese cookbook in English, featuring expanded recipes and instructions from the original based on those she had contributed to Vogue and Good Housekeeping Magazine. Wong (1893-1934?) was a remarkable Chinese-American woman, stolen from her parents in Canton, China at the age of 8 years old, sold into slavery, and subsequently escaped in Hawaii, where she attended the Girls Industrial Home. She later managed to move to Pasadena, CA where she worked, and later attended the School of Pharmacy at Columbia University, earning her degree in 1920 becoming the first Chinese-American, or Chinese woman to become a pharmacist in the U.S. After her return to China she attempted to set up a pharmacy college in China, but battled tuberculosis, struggled with her living conditions, and finally opened a drugstore/perfumery/teahouse in Beijing by the late 1920's.…
