The number of patents which can be issued to universities and colleges increased by more than 100 percent between 1979 and 1984, as well as between 1984 and 1989. It almost doubled once more during the 1990s. In 1980 only about 20 research universities had technology licensing and transfer offices. 10 years later that number was 200, and in 2000 just about every major research university had founded its own (Colyvas et al., 2002, P. 1). University license revenues have increased from $220 million to $698 million from 1991 to 1997 (Association of University Technology Managers, 1998).Private sector activity is always associated with the risk of failure because of the responsibility which is connected with it. This leads us to the discussion why academics should escape from a ¿safe world¿ of their publicly financed institution to either become entrepreneurs or to work in private companies. What are the major reasons for the risk of entrepreneurial and private sector activity The following paper tries to find an answer on this question by blending theoretical backgrounds and empirical elements.The second chapter serves as an introduction to the subject where the issue of the paper is narrowed further down and the key questions of it are defined. The main characteristics and concepts will also be distinguished in the second chapter, as much as it will be presented which aspects are not discussed in the paper. The third chapter of this paper concentrates on how internal and external factors influence the decision of scientists to show entrepreneurial behaviour. There are different theories and surveys which try to find an answer to the question how important different elements are. The fourth chapter works out the details in differences of the factors leading either to academic spinoffs or private firm participations. The conclusion gives the final answer on how the theory and the empiricism correspond with each other and which reasons are responsible for academics to break out from the ivory tower of science.

Dieser Zustand kommt einer Entmündigung und Enteignung der Empfänger niedriger Einkommen gleich, da diese keine Wahlmöglichkeit bezüglich ihrer Altersabsicherung haben.Gleichzeitig werden Reiche durch dieses System bevorzugt, da durch das Abwälzen staatlicher Aufgaben auf die Sozialversicherungen die Steuern niedrig gehalten werden und somit deren Einkünfte und Vermögen geschont werden.Durch Geburtenrückgang bei gleichzeitig höherer Lebenserwartung wird der Anteil alter Menschen in unserer Bevölkerung drastisch zunehmen. Diese Menschen haben einen Anspruch, in sozial gefestigten Umständen zu Leben. Die Gewährleistung ausreichender Alterseinkünfte allein aus Mitteln der gesetzlichen Rentenversicherung wird zukünftige Erwerbsgenerationen überfordern. Im Laufe der Geschichte wurde die Rentenversicherung mehrmals den demographischen und wirtschaftlichen Bedingungen angepasst.Die nachfolgende Arbeit befasst sich mit den Rechtsgrundlagen, deren Umsetzung und die Zukunft der gesetzlichen Rentenversicherung in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

Nicht auch zuletzt deswegeneiner der Bewegründe mich in diesem Semester damit, im Rahmen der FH auseinandersetzen zu dürfen.Wenn wir vom Tod reden, ist es vielleicht die Angst selbst einmal davon betroffen zu sein, was auch ziemlich sicher scheint und wir das Gerede über den Tod deshalb einfach wegschieben. Der Tod betrifft uns in unseren Lebensjahren einfach nicht, er ist nur für die Alten da oder die Schwerkranken. Doch die, die noch nichts über ihren Tod wissen wollen, weil er einfach noch viel zu weit weg zu sein vermag, scheinen ihn wunderbar zu verdrängen.Soweit, das es Seminare gibt, die sich der Thematik anpassen und darin ein Problem erkunden.Mir ist es ein Anliegen näher auf den Bezug der großen monotheistischen Religionen und das Sterben in der heutigen Zeit einzugehen. Wie sehen die Autoritäten dieser Religionen, die dreiMöglichkeiten moderner medizinischer Versorgung und wie stehen sie vor allem den Begriffen der Sterbehilfe gegenüber.

This change has to do with the new government policy in education. The implemented of this action in the education system have brought such a huge problem towards the teachers and students. The sudden change is hard to be accepted by as the teachers are used to teach in Malay language. Because of the lack of experienced teaching in English they tend to code switch terms to Malay Language from English. That makes the study becoming more complicated. Moreover not all the teachers can speak English fluently and this somehow does affect the quality of teaching the Math and Science using the English language. In a first step there will be given a general definition on the term both genitive and determiner, with regards to the comparison of genitive case and determiner given in the topic of this paper. In this place, even clitic and affix definition is not left blank. Furthermore it is mentioned that during English language change from the Old English language to the Modern English language a change has taken place concerning the treatment of nominal phrases and determiner phrases within the DP-Analysis raised in the late 1980s. This will be pointed out in this paper as well. As well as the question whether a possessive construction can be treated as an inflectional form or even gets the status of a determiner there will be given a closer look to the history and use of the 's genitive and the his-genitive which usually applied in the second half of the 15th century. To get deeper into the discussion there will be a closer look to the position where the 's-construction do occur. Referring to cross linguistic reference the 's-genitive and other variations to point out a possessive relationship in Dutch language will be analysed more concrete. With reference to the DP-Hypothesis the change of the determiner status, i.e. the change of the 's-construction from the inflectional endings in Old English to clitic and in the end to determiner status are examined in this paper to give an overview how complex and investigated the 's-construction in English language is to this day. 20 pp. Englisch.

First of all, the didactic messages involved in the stories demand a categorization of the large number of different narratives as the second chapter of the paper examines. Besides the didactic messages, the traditional manners of storytelling also play an important role for Native American adults and children. Special ceremonial customs related to the act of storytelling need to be analyzed. The third chapter of this paper focuses on the particular characters and actual examples of how proper behavior is conveyed by either serving as good or bad examples. Furthermore, the paper investigates the degree of importance and the need for traditional tales in the context of educating Native children. The character of the Indian trickster plays an essential role in these processes. After having prospected these aspects, one might also be able to evaluate the usefulness of Zitkala-Sa's Sioux stories for the education of non-Native children. 20 pp. Englisch.

In it, he tries to give answers to the questions which arose from his article and tries to clarify his standpoints and claims to underpin his thesis. Samuel P. Huntington has given new currency to the notion of a clash of civilizations. His 1993 article on the topic in Foreign Affairs and his book following this article has gained a global audience.Huntington argues that the bipolar division of the world based on ideology is no longer relevant. The world was entering a new period of intense conflict among civilizations. He states: 'It is my hypothesis that the fundamental source of conflict in this new world will not be primarily ideological or primarily economic. The great divisions among humankind and the dominating source of conflict will be cultural. Nation states will remain them most powerful actors in world affairs, but the principal conflicts of global politics will occur between nations and groups of different civilizations. The clash of civilizations will dominate global politics. The fault lines between civilizations will be the battle lines of the future.' (Huntington, 1993, p.22) In trying to understand the causes of actual events like the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States of America many authors have turned to Samuel P. Huntington's provocative and controversial thesis of a 'clash of civilizations'. The incipient and latent conflict root is believed to be originally dated back to the 1930s; however, in this paper, the scope of analysis will be solely limited from 1969 up to present. 1969 was chosen as the starting point for analysis because it is the year that the manifest conflict started to erupt as the oil was first discovered in the Spratly Islands. Spratlys are invaluable resource in terms of not only oil, gas, seafood and natural resources, but also strategic location that all the claimants have been trying to achieve. So far, some efforts of preventing conflict have been tried, but the conflict still exists due to realistic interests of all the claimants, significantly China. At the same time peace processes are often elite-driven with a relatively small number of people responsible for making final decisions. The following analysis examines different attempts in Northern Ireland and the Basque Country to contribute sustainably to a peace process on a political elite-level. It will be shown that the success of leadership and political risk-taking by elites is highly dependent on the circumstances. It will be shown that courageous elite decisions are doomed to have little effect if basic requirements are lacking. Simultaneously, even if the preconditions seem to be appropriate peace processes can fail due to a lack of commitment on the side of political leaders.The conflicts in Northern Ireland and the Basque Country show - up to a certain extent - notable similarities in their initial situations. In both cases nationalist movements tried/try to alter the state of autonomy in one part of the country. Both conflicts led to cruel violence and left numerous civilians dead. Both conflicts took and take politically place within the particular province and between the province and the federal government of the nation state (Spain/United Kingdom and Ireland). The nationalist movements in both cases are divided between a radical party (Batasuna/Sinn Fein) and a more moderate one (PNV/SDLP). These similarities compose a good starting point for a comparative analysis.Regarding the generalizability of the findings, two central restrictions must be made. First the small number of cases (only two) discussed in this paper limit the possibility to draw universal conclusions. In statistical terms the extent of the sample is insufficient to make a valid statement about the relation of the variables 'leadership and political risk taking and 'development or outcome of a peace process . Another crucial point is that the variables in the two cases are not perfectly independent from each other as political decisions made in Northern Ireland are thought to have had an influence on the political sphere and thus on the peace process in general in the Basque Country. 20 pp. Englisch.

Since the relationship between the big topic and the space at my disposal can best be described as unproportional (to say the least), it will, in the end, remain but a very concise (and perforce, somewhat superficial) overlook rather than an in-depth study. One reason for the inadequacy lies in the fact that there are notable divides between the rural people and city dwellers, Catholics and Protestants, Norne Irons (Northern Irelanders) and Irelanders from the Republic, and the Irish-speaking people inside and outside the Gaeltacht (Gaelic speaking regions) and the English-speaking majority population. The culture of the Irish is, thus, far from being homogeneous. In order to meet the conditions of a description of the manifestations of Ireland's culture at different levels nonetheless, I used Geert Hofstede's 'onion diagram' (hence the title) as a guideline and worked through the layers from the outside to the core (cf. Hofstede 1991: 9). Thus, I will deal with Ireland's symbols first, move on to its heroes, describe some of the rituals, eventually shed some light at the cultural values and close with displaying some of the more common stereotypes. 16 pp. Englisch.
