Jahrhunderts entscheidend zur Verbreitung der seinerzeit neuen Technik der Harzölmalerei in Italien beitrug. Es gelang ihm das Licht, die Stimmungslage und die Detailliebe der flämischen Malerei mit der monumentalen, rationalen Räumlichkeit der italienischen Schule auszubalancieren.
