French title with extensive note on the provenance of this book: it was gifted to George White (d.1908), assistant secretary to the share/loan department of the London Stock Exchange by a Japanese acquaintance (a J. Ono). It then came into possession of his son George Stanley White via Sir Charles Fortescue Brickdale, who was at the time of writing a 'certified patient at The Retreat' in Fairford, Gloucestershire. His sister Roza Ada resided in The Retreat as well, as a voluntary patient.
