Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a comprehensive guide to the art of lithography, offering a fascinating journey through its history and practical application. The author meticulously traces the accidental discovery of lithography in 1792 by Alois Senefelder, a struggling writer who sought a cheaper way to print his own work. The book reveals how Senefelder's serendipitous invention quickly gained popularity for its speed and versatility, especially for printing circulars, plans, music, and drawings. It delves into the intricate details of creating and using lithographic inks and chalks, the meticulous preparation of lithographic stones, and the specific types of paper required for successful printing. Readers will learn how to transfer drawings to the stone, draw directly on the stone, and master the art of etching. The book also explores the process of printing, emphasizing the critical role of proper inking and the challenges of achieving a clean, sharp impression. Throughout the text, the author highlights the crucial interplay of chemical reactions and meticulous technique that underpins the art of lithography. From the effervescence of acid on the stone to the delicate balance of grease and water during printing, the book unveils the scientific principles that make this art form so unique. By illuminating the historical context, practical techniques, and scientific foundation of lithography, this book provides readers with a comprehensive and engaging exploration of an art form that revolutionized the world of printing. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
