Minor shelf wear. Slight bumping to corners. Minor rubbing to spine. Ribbons for holding volume together missing. Clean, unmarked plates. A collection of 36 full-color paintings of various bridges. Sir Frank William Brangwyn was an Anglo-Welsh artist, painter, water colourist, virtuoso engraver and illustrator, and progressive designer. When, at the age of seventeen, one of his paintings was accepted at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, he was strengthened in his conviction to become an artist. An attractive collection of Brangwyns work, well-preserved and in very good condition.…

Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition Limited Edition. A very rare, possibly unique, copy of this collection of poems with illustrations by Frank Brangwyn: this copy is one of 25 printed on Japon paper, hand numbered 15, and it has 3 suites of prints, being one extra set of the lithographs, one set of the woodcuts in first state, and one set of the woodcuts in second state (as published). The book is in its original board folder with slipcase, unbound and uncut, with pages numbered to 118 plus colophon. The page numbering is such that the 7 lithographs which are loose are part of the pages (so, page 1 is the limitation page, page 12 the first numbered page, each lithograph is 2 pages (recto and verso). With the 43 woodcuts and the suites, there are 143 original prints in all. The suites are all printed on thin chine laid paper. 290 copies of this edition of Les Campagnes Hallucin es were printed in all, of which 25 were hand numbered and on Japon paper, 25 on Chine, and 240 on Arches paper. Condition: The first 6 leaves of the book, including the title page and frontispiece, have some fairly light foxing. The first 6 sheets of the first state woodcuts also have some foxing, more serious and affecting the prints. There are a few other light fox marks but not affecting text or prints. Otherwise the set is very clean, light wear to the slipcase. Les Campagnes Hallucin es is a series of symbolist poems first published in 1893. In the poems, Verhaeren explores rural landscapes and scenes of everyday life, while expressing his thoughts on nature, love, death and the human condition. Two years later, Verhaeren wrote another set of poems entitled Les Villes Tentaculaires, Brangwyn's illustrations for which was published in 1919, and Les Campagnes Hallucin es followed in 1927.
