Nel 1923 Luigi Campolonghi, che risiedeva a Parigi da tredici anni come corrispondente del «Secolo», il quotidiano democratico di Milano, tornò per l'ultima volta in Italia per dare le dimissioni dal giornale che era caduto sotto il control…lo dei fascisti. Lasciato il vecchio lavoro, Campolonghi, trasformatosi in agricoltore, affittò una proprietà a Nérac in Guascogna, e qui scrisse il suo libro di memorie. Il libro, nato dalla nostalgia dell'esule, è un'esatta fotografia («ritratto in piedi» come dice argutamente il sottotitolo) della cittadina di Pontremoli negli ultimi due secoli dell'Ottocento. Brossura editoriale, coperta illustrata a colori in cartoncino flessibile plastificato lucido. Qualche lieve segno del tempo, ingiallimento della carta delle pagine interne.

Il romanzo del primo e più vasto sciopero agrario italiano; il " lungo vento caldo " delle campagne… parmensi che irrompe, nel 1908, nei comuni di Noceto, Felino e Colorno, quando viene messa in discussione l'interpretazione del concordato, stipulato l'anno precedente, in merito all'orario dei contadini addetti al bestiame da stalla. Qualche segno del tempo ma è copia più che discreta.

Socialista militante, a vent'anni era gia' stato inserito nel Casellario politico degli oppositori politici e fino al 1943 rimase sotto sorveglianza da parte della pubblica sicurezza. Nel 1898 si reco' in Francia per sfuggire all'arresto ma fu espulso dopo 3 anni. Ritorno' in Francia in seguito in qualita' di corrispondente di "Il Messaggero".ÂNel 1923 torno' in Italia per dare le dimissioni dal "Secolo" caduto sotto l'influenza fascista, poi si ritiro' a Guascogna dove prese in affitto una fattoria che fu meta di molti fuoriusciti italiani:ÂAmendola, Natoli, Trentin, Torrigiani. Qui con De Ambris fondo' la Lega Italiana dei diritti dell'uomo. ITA.
