In dieser Kombination zwischen den Künstlern und ihren Zeitschriften, bewegt sich auch die amerikanische Zeitschrift "Art/Life" 1981 von Joe Cardella in Ventura gegründet. Die Zeitschrift ist de facto eine Arbeitsgemeinschaft zwischen Cardella und den einzelnen Künstler, die ca. 11 mal pro Jahr publiziert wurde. Cardella zog Mitte der 70ziger Jahre von New York nach Californien. Da sich die künstlerische Landschaft' in dieser Zeit sich erst entwickelte, war Cardella einer der ersten, die sich dessen bewußt waren und diese Lücke füllen wollten: "He stated the purposes and intent of ART/LIFE tob e a means of visual communication between artists, establishing his belief that art was life, and life was art, existing together in a continuum, with no difference or separation between them" (Zitat A Perspective of the ART/Life Continuum). Die Wurzeln liegen neben Dada, Surrealismus in der Gruppe Fluxus.
