E fut l'objet, selon l'expression de Shute, on doit reconnaître qu'il présente, outre son antiquité *, certains caractères internes, dignes de remarque ; c'est surtout la concision et la correction. Quand un mot a été introduit à tort, quand un article, un sujet, un auxiliaire sont superflus, très souvent E ne les porte pas3. D'autre part sa recherche de la correction non seulement grammaticale, mais aristotélicienne est indéniable. Toutefois ces qualités, si importantes soient-elles, ne sont pas garantie d'originalité ; si l'on songe à la négligence du style d'Aristote, au caractère récent et spécial de sa terminologie, on peut toujours soupçonner que le copiste de E corrigeait l'original.
