N. Stillwell, edited and supplemented after her death by J. L. Benson. The pottery, although frequently fragmentary, can often be assigned to known painters or workshops, and the deposits, especially in view of the defective pieces in them, can be argued to contain material almost exclusively of local manufacture. A brief introduction serves to explain the organization of the catalogue and to characterize the principal deposits, most of which contained material from several periods; a summary of represented painters and workshops concludes the chapter. The catalogue presents over 2,300 examples from more than 4,000 inventoried pieces. Almost all are illustrated with photographs, frequently supplemented with detail line drawings of motifs; selected profile drawings represent the principal shapes. In unserem Fall handelt es sich um die katalogartige Publikation antiker Keramik diverser Museen und Sammlungen der Welt, wie etwa Deutschlands, der USA, Russlands und Japans. --- Die möglichst genaue Dokumentation antiker Tongefäße, (im Folgenden auch mit dem eigentlich falschen, aber geläufigen Ausdruck Vasen" versehen), in Text und Abbildung war und ist immer noch Hauptanliegen der Bände. Part 2: Plates. xxviii (text) & 380 plates (some folding). These are the concluding volumes of the University of Cincinnati's monumental publication of the Expedition to Troy, 1923-38. They cover the Troy of Homer and the Trojan War, and continue with its two phases of Bronze Age survival, its desertion for 400 years and its renaissance as a Greek site down to the time of Alexander. A very good set with some light rubbing to the spine tips. The text and plates are very good and clean in both volumes. The jackets are good with some light soiling to the front panels which have a few small chips at the top and bottom. The spines are browned and have some chipping at the tips. Foreign postage extra on this heavy set.
