Aulus Cornelius Celsus (25 av. J.C. - 50 après J.C.) est un naturaliste encyclopédiste qui exerce la médecine à Rome au cours du Ier siècle. Une oeuvre importante dans l'histoire de la médecine, et considérée comme l'un des traités de médecine les plus anciens, qui récapitule toutes les connaissances accumulées depuis Hippocrate. L'ouvrage est crucial pour la compréhension de la médecine à l'époque de Celse. Dans son 'De medicina', l'auteur classe les maladies non d'après leurs causes, mais d'après les moyens de les guérir ; il obtient ainsi trois catégories : la première rassemble les maladies curables par la diététique et l'hygiène ; la deuxième, celles qui sont sensibles aux médicaments ; la troisième est consacrée à la chirurgie. Seconde édition de l'édition de Theodorus Janssonius van Almeloveen (1657-1712) de ce célèbre texte de médecine antique du savant romain Celsus (premiers siècles avant et après J.C.). L'originale avait été donnée par le même éditeur en 1687. C'est l'un des documents médicaux les plus anciens en Occident, après ceux d'Hippocrate ; il faisait partie à l'origine d'un recueil encyclopédique, Artes, désormais perdu. Le manuscrit du De Medica fut quant à lui redécouvert à Milan en 1443. Bon exemplaire. Mouillure angulaire claire sur quelques feuillets. Celsus steht in der Tradition der alexandrinischen Schule. Er war der erste, der zahlreiche medizinische Ausdrücke aus dem Griechischen ins Lateinische übersetzte, daher wird er a…uch als ,medicorum Cicero' bezeichnet. Die noch heute gültigen vier Zeichen der lokalen Entzündung wurden erstmals von Celsus beschrieben: Tumor (Schwellung), Calor (Überwärmung), Rubor (Rötung), Dolor (Schmerz). Galenos (129-215 n. Chr.) fügte als fünftes Merkmal die Functio laesa (Funktionseinschränkung) hinzu. [.] Im 5. und 8. Buch seines Werkes über die Heilkunde behandelt er auch die Augenheilkunde, etwa die Staroperation. In Buch 7 beschreibt Celsus unter anderem die von dem Arzt Ammonios, genannt ,der Steinschneider', erfundene Zertrümmerung eines Blasensteins in der Harnblase unter Verwendung eines (vom Lithotomus) in die Blase eingeführten Hakens (in Kap. 26, 3 C), aber auch den bis ins 18.
