Tooley shares with tensed approaches the view that the universe is dynamic, holding that the past and the present are real while the fu ture is not; but he rejects the view that this entails that there are irreducibl e tensed facts. Tooley's approach accounts for time in terms of its relation to causation: he argues that the direction of time is based upon the direction of c ausation, and that the key to understanding the dynamic nature of the universe l ies in the nature of causation. He also offer analyses of tensed concepts, and d iscusses semantic issues concerning truth and time. Finally, addressing the form idable difficulties posed for tensed accounts of time by the Special Theory of R elativity, he suggests that a modified version of the theory, compatible with th e account of time in this book, is to be preferred to the standard version.…

From Jack Lindsay's Preface There can be few presses, if any, which have had so full and thorough a description and analyses of their work as the Fanfrolico has here at the hands of Harry Chaplin. He has been able to draw upon all the main participants for information and comment and has thus enriched the direct bibliographical aspects with material which illustrates every aspect of the press. From Chaplin's Introduction The Fanfrolico Press evolved from the Hand Press of John T. Kirtley, established by him at his home in Kirribilli, a suburb of Sydney, in 1923. Through his friendship with the manager of a Sydney bookshop, he was introduced to Jack Lindsay, who had just written a series of poems and was looking for a publisher. Kirtley offered to print the poems, and in 1923 they appeared in a volume with the title Fauns and Ladies. The colophon stated that it was the first book from the Hand Press of John T. Kirtley. In 1925, for the printing of Lysistrata, the name of the press was changed to The Fanfrolico Press, this being the first of many books to carry the imprint. This is probably the most significant collection of Fanfrolico books ever assembled. Not only does it contain a copy or copies of every title published by the Press, but it is important for the number of books which have been inscribed and annotated by Jack Lindsay. This slim, soft cover pamphlet, 81 pages, is in near-fine condition. The only fault is fading on the spine. A scarce Fanfrolico item.…
