FIRST EDITION, pp.328; 96 illustrations including facsimiles of the title-pages of all the books published by the Press; a handsome production, designed by Paul Nash, bound in blue cloth, gold-blocked with Fanfrolico device on upper cover. A detailed history of the Press and full bibliography of its publications and ephemera, tracing the venture from its origins in Sydney, Australia, in the early 1920s, to success in London from 1926 and its final dissolution in 1930. The Press is notable for the literary input of its proprietor Jack Lindsay, working initially with John Kirtley, later with P. R. Stephensen, and finally alone; for the illustrations provided by Edward Bawden, Hal Collins, Lionel Ellis and others, most notably, Jack's father Norman Lindsay; and for the typographic sensibilities of Jack Lindsay, which brought a distinctive style to the books of the Press. Australian Fine Printing Illustrated Private Press.

#37 OF A LIMITED EDITION OF 500 COPIES (ink handwritten copy# and limitation statement on page ii, i.e. the half-title verso). i-xii, 1-243 pages plus unpaged b/w plates. Hardcover: H 26cm x L 19.5cm. No dust jacket nor slipcase present (seems likely it would have been issued with at least one such embellishment). Blue patterned cloth rubbed; some fading mostly to spine and across top of front board; fraying to spine head; boards' fore-edge corners bumped particularly at bottoms; slender patches of white shelf paint adhered to boards' bottom edges. Gilt top edge; slender toning occurring along leaves' deckle fore-edges and deckle bottom edges. Front and rear free endpapers toned; a few scattered minor specks of soiling to interior leaves. Binding is firm. Still a handsome book. This copy is NOT signed by the author nor contributors with the inclusion of signatures being haphazard on the part of Norman Lindsay's Fanfrolico Press.

: being a statement of the aims of the Fanfrolico Press both typographical and aesthetic with a complete bibliography and specimen passages and illustrations from the books. London : The Fanfrolico Press, 1928. Octavo, original wrappers, with illustration by Norman Lindsay (faint crease to fore edge), the standard edition, 36 pp, illustrated, including title page drawing, three plates and tailpiece by Norman Lindsay. Arnold C6. A catalogue of publications of the Fanfrolico Press, which also contains a short publisher's manifesto. In mid-1928 the Press, the result of a creative partnership forged between Sydney publishers John Kirtley and Jack Lindsay (son of Norman Lindsay), was based in London with Jack Lindsay as proprietor working alongside P.R. Stephensen. By the time the Press closed in 1930, it had published forty-six books with a distinctive design aesthetic, including numerous titles illustrated by Norman Lindsay. An important catalogue relating to arguably the most significant of Australian fine publishing houses.

Landor (1781-1869) was the youngest brother of Walter Savage Landor. He wrote five tragedies, of which one, Count Arezzi (1822), sold brilliantly while it was mistaken for Byron's work. Partridge remarks in his prefatory note: "That so fine a writer as Robert Landor should have fallen into an almost complete neglect is inexplicable on literary groundsÉOf men who, since 1700 (and I might add since 1600), have published their work only to attract little immediate notice and to become very rapidly forgotten, I know of none that can approach in merit, whether it be in prose or verse, this younger brother of Walter Savage Landor." Octavo. [6], 286, [1] pp. Photogravure portrait, and etching of Landor's birthplace. Quarter vellum over brown paper boards, gilt spine. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Some fading to top of front board. Otherwise a beautiful copy, tight and clean. First edition. The press's scarce fourth book. One of 155 copies printed at the Curwen Press. Signed by Partridge.

Foreword by Edgell Rickword. No. 77 of 500 copies signed by the translator. 4 full page plates and 12 headpieces and a title page vignette by Norman Lindsay. Folio, original half blue morocco, blue paper covered boards with a gilt stamped design after Norman Linsday on the upper cover with a gilt border, top edge gilt, others uncut. Spine slightly faded, a little fading to edges of paper boards, corners bumped, slight tear to the lower corner of the morocco, slightly shaken. Lindsay's gently erotic and witty illustrations compliment this finely printed edition of Ecclesiazusae.
