104pp, oblong (11.25 x 8.5 inches), 50 b&w photos, printed one side only. Good condition in gray wrappers (soft covers) with black titles and illustration (a b&w drawing) on front cover. The covers are worn, with creasing and a one inch tear at top edge of front cover and two more at head and tail of spine. The spine is chipped, three little pieces missing. The pages show some yellowing, with very light foxing to title page. Corners are rubbed, lower corner is bent, pages are all affected. There is a one inch tear at top edge of title page, and the first two pages are creased at lower corner. Despite this brutally honest description, the contents (photos) are still clean, crisp, no tears or creases to the pages, no markings. Except for the title page and a one page introduction, the book is composed of black and white photos of buildings and landscapes in the vicinity of Alexandria Bay. Each photo is identified, but there are no other comments and no mention of a photographer. The introductory page is attributed to "The Board of Trade of Alexandria Bay, New York." Digital photos available.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. 2nd Edition. ** SCARCE ** FINE CONDITION ** HEAVY, OVERSIZED HARDCOVER BOOK ** PUBLISHED WITHOUT DUSTJACKET ** This book was published in 1966 by the Ceramic Book Company, England. It is a quality exact facsimile reprint of a book compiled and published in 1762 by the London printer Robert Sayer. It is believed there is only one complete copy of that 1762 printing left in existence, and this facsimile was made from that book. With 1500 illustrations that were widely used at the time as patterns in the production of porcelains and ceramics, furniture, and prints. With 400 pages, but NOTE each page is printed on only one side, so there are 200 numbered pages of pattern illustrations. Most pages contain multiple illustrations. In addition to the illustrations, the book contains instructions for the art of japanning and how to use the illustrations. The book is a thick, heavy oblong and is over 1 foot long, bound in sturdy red cloth-covered boards with bright embossed gilt lettering on the front and the spine, and with a Japanese-themed pictorial in gilt on the front of the book. The book is not quite As New, does show slight, very brief, very occasional signs of use, but has no significant defects. The book is quite clean and stain-free, square and straight, very firm and tight in its binding, no pages are loose, torn, folded, creased, or missing. The hinges are sound and undamaged, the corners are sharp and unbumped. All pages are clean and stain free, bright and white, and all illustrations are sharp and legible. There is no writing, underlining, highlighting, or other such markings anywhere in the book. Macrouch. A most remarkable achievement of compilation wherein the author manages to gather together an exceptionally wide assortment of Ukrainian-owned firms present in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec, and Ontario. Preliminary leaves include such detailed statistics as the "Ukrainian Occupational Index" (listing the multitude of areas where Ukrainians in Canada were employed), "Ukrainian Population in Leading Canadian Cities", and various miscellaneous statistics (e.g.: immigration statistics for the preceding years, conjugal status, citizenship, religious affiliation, languages spoken, et al). Also preceding the index is a remarkable "History of Ukraine" printed in a graphic novel format comprising of thirty-three (33) strikingly illustrated 'strips'. The index itself details a remarkable assortment of nearly every imaginable service, and profession (for its time period), accompanied with the name of the business or individual and corresponding contact details. Interspersed are various period advertisements by many prominent Canadian firms such as the T. Eaton Co., and many smaller regional firms (chiefly Ukrainian). Exceptionally rare in commerce. Equally scarce amongst institutional holdings with no known Canadian, or American holdings at time of cataloguing. Unrecorded in OCLC. Not found in Peel, BAC/LAC, University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections, University of Saskatchewan, Fisher, et al. Rare indeed.

Unpaged - 20 leaves total plus covers (title page plus 15 pages of text and eleven single-sided b/w plates). Staple-bound booklet; H 22cm x L 15.75cm. Original tan paper covers soiled, strong moisture stain at bottom of front cover with faint stains at center affecting title page and adjoining b/w plate with minimal affect upon other leaves, mild curl to bottom right of entire publication, front cover has an apparently original rough cut fore-edge whereas rear cover has smooth fore-edge, rear cover has small chip at top left corner with short tear at top edge with several mild horizontal streaks of toning. Light vertical crease at publication's center as if booklet was once folded in a pocket. Text extols business facets and some local history of the Tampa area with statistics regarding the growth and production of Tampa Gas Company. Whereas text avoids tourist related promotion, the plates (some with several inset b/w images and others a single b/w photo) show images of prominent local banks, the Tampa Bay Hotel, the Federal Building, two cigar factories, Ballast Point, Sulphur Springs resort, Tampa Gas Works, several downtown streetscapes, and an on-high view of the city's residential section taken from the Tampa Bay Hotel looking down upon Hyde Park Avenue towards the bay. OCLC cites a mere two copies held by member libraries - Miami-Dade Public Library and the University of South Florida (USF) - although the latter has no matching online library catalog citation. Title page specifies that the booklet was "Published originally by The Tampa Gas Company [and] reprinted by Citizens of Tampa and Hillsborough County" (presumably a quasi-Chamber of Commerce official entity). However, OCLC does not cite a preceding publication of the same title although the aforementioned USF library catalog does cite a 27 page publication simply titled TAMPA 1906 with statistics also compiled by C.R. Hawk and published by the Tampa Gas Company. Either way still an exceptionally scarce if not rare publication. A good copy.
