Vor allem als Augenchirurg erfolgreich, wandte er neue Operationsmethoden an, u.a. Ptoseoperation sowie Keroplastik, und modifizierte die Operationsmethoden des grauen und grünen Stars. Er veröffentlichte u.a. Die Funktionsprüfung des Auges (1896) und war Mitherausgeber des Handbuchs der gesamten Augenheilkunde von Albrecht von Graefe und Edwin Theodor Saemisch (ab (2)1913).
