Der Übersetzer Karl Heinrich Spohr (17561840) war der Vater des Komponisten Ludwig Spohr. Er wirkte als Landphysikus im Harz und übersetzte zahlreiche Werke der Medizin. Der Übersetzer erwähnt im Vorwort, dass er die ersten drei Bände der Originalausgabe, die komplett in vier Bänden erschien, übersetzt hat.
