Illustrated with a photographic monochrome frontispiece, forty in-text illustrations and a large folding map loosely inserted to the rear pocket. Collated, complete. A regimental diary of the 9th Queen"s Royal Lancers during the Second Boer War, covering the regiment"s service in South Africa from 1899 to 1902. The 9th Lancers were heavily engaged in the South African campaign, including the relief of Kimberley and later operations across the Orange River Colony, Transvaal, and Cape Colony. With a presentation label to the front pastedown: "Presented to Capt. A. A. East, 3024, as a Memento of the War by the Officers of the Regiment." An interesting first hand regimental history, based on the private journals of two 9th Queen"s Royal Lancers officers. In the publisher's original cloth binding.Externally, smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Slight fading to spine. One or two minor marks to perimeters of boards. Browning to endpapers. Slight tide marking to upper fore edge of free endpapers. Front free endpaper slightly disbound at lower gutter, but holding. Rear hinge starting with webbing partially exposed. Three inch closed tear extending from opening of rear pocket.
