EA. - Pierre Jaquet-Droz (geb. 1721, La Chaux-de-Fonds, gest. 1790, Biel: «Primarschule in seiner Geburtsstadt, humanistisches Gymnasium und Studium der Philosophie in Basel. 1740 wandte sich Pierre Jaquet-Droz der mechanischen Uhrmachere…i zu. 1758 reiste er nach Spanien, um König Ferdinand VI. Pendulen zu verkaufen, von denen zwei mit einem automatischen Antrieb versehen waren. Ab 1759 baute Jaquet-Droz in La Chaux-de-Fonds eine international tätige Firma auf, die hochwertige Uhren produzierte. Er überwachte 1767-1774 die Herstellung einer bedeutenden Gruppe von Automaten, die in ganz Europa gezeigt wurde (heute im Musée d'art et d'histoire in Neuenburg)» (HLS).
