Traduzione e adattamento francese (la prima edizione di questa versione risale al 1864) di Der schweizerische Robinson del Wyss, la più celebre delle robinsonades, il fecondissimo filone di imitazioni del capolavoro di Defoe. L'opera, composta da un pastore evangelico svizzero a scopo di edificazione e svago per i suoi bambini, fu pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1812. L'opera fu innumerevoli volte ristampata e tradotta in moltissime lingue e fu uno dei libri preferiti di Verne, che la amava a tal punto da scriverne un seguito, Seconde Patrie. P. J. Stahl è lo pseudonimo del grande editore Pierre Jules Hetzel (Chartres, 1814-Montecarlo, 1886), celeberrimo soprattutto per il sodalizio con Verne, di cui stampò in fantasmagoriche vesti editoriali i Voyages extraordinaires.
