It is a collection of 36 paintings of famous clipper ships, and accompanying historical notes, excerpted from the famous three-volume set, Sail: The Romance of the Clipper Ships, first published in 1927. The set was created from the original front cover illustrations created for the British magazine, Blue Peter, by the legendary maritime painter, Jack Spurling (1870-1933). This single volume is a selection of the 36 most significant ships featured in the original three-volume set. Each featured ship is portrayed in a full-color full-page illustration along with the original text provided by Lubbock. The text includes the history of each ship, along with lore and legend, and is a treasure for those who value stories of the sea. 179 pages, no dust jacket.
