Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Single large tabloid issue (56cm x 43cm); folded sheets, 12pp. Original horizontal and vertical folds (as issued), with mild toning to first page at fold-lines and a tiny puncture at the centerpoint (costing one or two characters of text, but no loss of sense). Otherwise quite fresh and well-preserved, with none of the usual toning to text. The celebrated "Special Issue 43" of Jonas Mekas' long-running journal of avant-garde cinema, issued in the wake of Mekas' Expanded Cinema Festival at the Filmmakers' Cinématheque in November and December 1965. The issue's Introduction includes its twofold statement of purpose: "a) to give our readers an idea about what's going on in the avantgarde arts today, and b) to serve as a sort of catalogue or index to the work of some of the artists involved." Includes a lengthy transcription of a panel discussion on Expanded Cinema by Ken Dewey, Henry Geldzahler, John Gruen, Stan Vanderbeek and Robert Whitman at the 1966 New York Film Festival; other peices by Maxine Haleff, gregory Battcock, Gordon Ball, Henry Flynt, and others. The two pages at centerfold comprise "Fluxfest Information," highlighted by the first appearance of George Maciunas' oft-reprinted "Expanded Arts Diagram." A veritable catalogue of the mid-Sixties New York performance avantgarde, rarely found in this condition. A very good copy overall. Does have a split/tear at the center crease that goes through most of the pages. Folded twice. Opens up easily. See photos.

One of the first collective Fluxus anthologies, that compiled a first sampling of Fluxus scores, photodocumentation of performances, advertisements of Fluxus products, the dictionary definition of Fluxus. Also includes the list of editorial board consisting of representatives of the international Fluxus factions, and the list of 9 planned Fluxus year-boxes to be produced in the future, of which only one was produced in this format. On the verso of the scroll a note in red ball-point pen by Ben Vautier: 'This is Fluxus Archaeology', signed 'Ben" and dated '92 by the artist below. Ben was with a friend who showed this scroll to him complaining of its bad condition. Ben Vautier signed his name on the back and added a statement, appropriating the publication and making it into a Fluxus statement itself. Condition: age tone to paper, some very slight detachment of the component parts of the scroll along the glue lines. The first page with the title of the cross has some ruffling to edges, two 3cm closed tears, one 1cm closed tear, and two further closed tear less than 1 cm. The base of the scroll - some minor chipping to the edges and a thin line of sellotape at the base. Small internal closed tear (around 5mm) at the base. Overall VG.

Aggiungi al carrelloA rare run of the Fluxus newspaper, comprised of all issues edited by George Maciunas, the movement's founder. Also included is No. 11, issued on 24 March 1979 as a tribute to Maciunas, who had died the previous year. It lacks only No. 10, which was a festschrift organized by George Brecht and others to honour Maciunas. The publication was edited by an ever-changing team of artists known as the Fluxus Editorial Council and features the work of over sixty artists, including Ay-O, George Brecht, Jon Hendricks, Dick Higgins, Angus MacLise, Yoko Ono, and Nam June Paik. Early issues were titled cc V Tre after a defective neon street sign seen by Brecht. After the first two issues the editors began to play with the titles, producing issues such as c Valise e ThReE, Vacuum TRapEzoid, and Vaseline sTREet. The newspapers contain advertisements for projects and publications, Fluxkits and artist multiples, text pieces, announcements of upcoming events, and reports on past happenings. These are interspersed with appropriated images and typical Fluxus humour: headlines in No. 1 announce that "All Telephone Numbers Have Been Changed" and "Floor Wears Out After 192 Years". No. 11, issued as a posthumous tribute to Maciunas, includes recollections by Ken Friedman and Henry Flynt, the program from "The Flux Funeral for George Maciunas", and memorial artworks by Wolf Vostell, Mieko Shiomi, Jon Hendricks, and others. Fluxus Codex 92-101. Together 10 items: Illustrated throughout. issues 1 to 9, broadsheet bifolium printed in black (590 x 460 mm); A V Tre Extra, No. 11, 16 pp. (375 x 295 mm), with original envelope. Nos 6 & 7 printed on green paper, No. 8 printed on red. With 1 loose insert to No. 9 and 2 to No. 11. Rubber-stamped address to front page of No. 1, "Amstel 47, Exposition, boekhandel r pereboom Amsterdam [sic]". Creased from folding, a few shallow chips and short closed tears to extremities, first 3 issues lightly toned, No. 1 with 14 cm tear and a few stains to top right corner, small chip to centrefold, occasional annotations in blue and pink ink, No. 3 with 12 cm tear across centre fold, later issues remarkably fresh and near-fine: a very good set.
