He was a strong advocate of Augustinian theology during the Pelagian controversy and wrote several anti-Pelagian treatises. He also had several translations published, being the works of several orthodox Greek theologians and heretical authors. This work is an editorial of Mercator's complete works. It is presented in two parts, bound in one volume. The first part comprises of Mercator's anti-Pelagian treatises with extensive commentary through the form of seven dissertations by Garnier. Garnier's dissertations hold great esteem and Cardinal Noris was an individual who hailed them in particular. To the second part Garnier's dissertations give an outline of the history of the Pelagian controversy, on heretical authors and of Nestorianism from 428-433.
