Hardback in red cloth boards, some shelf wear, fading to the endpapers, previous owner's name on front endpaper, otherwise in Very Good condition. In a clear protective archival wrapper, First edition, pp252, b&w and colour illustrations, and index. Give Me the Hills is one woman's account pf a remarkable life of joyful adventure on the high places of the world. Since childhood, on skis or on foot, with rope and with crampons, Miriam Underhill has raged over the most beautiful and legendary uplands of Europe and America; among them, the Alps, the Dolomites, the Rockies and the lovely White Mountains of New Hampshire. A pioneer of "man-less" climbing, she startled the mountaineering fraternity in her early years by daring to climb without benefit of male guides. Beginning in 1932, she led the first all-female team up the Monch from the Jungfraujoch, traversed the Grepon and conquered the summit of the Matterhorn. Honors and recognition for her skills have come from around the world. Mrs. Underhill's story and her magnificent photographs bring to life a rich collection of unforgettable exploits,a cast of delightful companions, and a great panorama of alpine meadows, towering rock, glaciers, forests and crystal cascades. Everyone who is a mountaineer, in fact or in spirit, will delight in her warm humor, her love of the outdoors and the excitement of her rugged adventures.
