Condizione: Fine. A Monument of 18th-Century Anatomical Inquiry. This premium facsimile edition reproduces the definitive 1797 work of Alexander Monro 'Secundus', one of the most distinguished figures of the Edinburgh Medical School. Monro was the first to describe the 'foramen of Monro' and his treatises on the sensory organs remain foundational to the history of neurology and ophthalmology. This edition, part of the Gryphon Classics of Ophthalmology Library, is presented in a luxurious full-leather binding, designed for both the scholar's shelf and the bibliophile's collection. KEY FEATURES +++ Limited Edition: Number 407 of a limited printing of 5000 copies, featuring a personalized bookplate. +++ Binding: Full rich leather with four raised spine bands, intricate gilt-tooled spine compartments, and all edges gilt (AEG). +++ Illustrations: Complete with all original illustrations and several large fold-out plates, meticulously reproduced on heavy archival-quality paper stock. +++ Interior: Features vibrant marbled endpapers and a clean, square text block. +++ Format: An imposing 11-inch tall quarto; 264 pages. CONDITION: Fine -- No Flaws or Blemishes. This copy is in gift quality condition, exhibiting no shelf wear, rubbing to the leather, or interior markings. The gilt remains bright and the binding is tight and unread. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE -- Alexander Monro 'Secundus' (17331817) occupied the Chair of Anatomy at the University of Edinburgh for forty years. His work on the brain and the nervous system provided the first accurate descriptions of the interventricular foramen. These treatises represent the apex of 18th-century medical illustration and clinical observation, bridging the gap between early anatomical sketches and modern surgical science. SUBJECTS: History of Medicine, Ophthalmology, Neurology, 18th Century Anatomy, Edinburgh Medical School, Limited Edition, Fine Bindings, Facsimile Editions, Medical Classics.

Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: Very Good. Sheet music, large folio: a collection of engraved music dating from the first half of the 19th century, bound together in one volume. Bound in half leather over marbled boards, the condition is very good; the covers are rubbed, the leather nicked and worn with one small hole to the spine; the binding is firm, the pages are bright with only occasional spotting and neat tape repairs. There is a modern bookplate to the front pastedown of E A and M Richardson and many of the titles are inscribed Richardson 1835. There are pieces by famous composers such as the Finale to Rossini's Cenerentola, a Grand Duet for Two Performers on One Piano Forte by Mozart, and The Queen of Prussia's Waltz by Beethoven. Less well known pieces include several by G Kiallmark, Pleyell's German Hymn published by Knapton of York, the Laura and Lenza Duet composed by M Holst and The Saxe Cobourg Waltz by J Monro. The Richardson family show their fondness for dancing with a Leeds imprint of Royal Galopades as danced at Almacks and the Nobility's Balls by Edw Willis. The younger generation were encourage with Popular Airs Arranged as Duets for Juvenile Performers on the Piano Forte by D Bruguier. A fascinating collection of 19th century music for which extra shipping charges may apply. Very Good Please contact Christian White Rare Books Ltd for more information or images of this item.
