Raat. - - Nederlandsche Vogelen is the first standard work on the avifauna of the Netherlands and is one of the most beautiful and expensive works in the history of our printing press. This standard work by Cornelis Nozeman and Christiaan Sepp was originally published in five volumes between 1770 and 1829. The five volumes together contain beautiful, originally hand-coloured engravings that depict the birds as much as possible in life-size size, often with their feathered partner and sometimes with nest and eggs. The engravings were provided by the Amsterdam amateur biologist Christiaan Sepp and later by his son and grandson. Cornelis Nozeman, a Remonstrant minister, provided the textual description for each bird. He was undoubtedly one of the greatest ornithologists of his time. His work was continued after his death by the physician and biologist Martinus Houttuyn, and the last volume was advised by Coenraad Jacob Temminck, the first director of the current Naturalis in Leiden.…

Bibliografia: Anker 369; Fine Bird Books, p.98; Nissen IVB 684; Legno, p.496; Zimmer, p.469.…
