"Julius Pacius de Beriga (auch Giulio Pace de Beriga und Giulio Pacio, geboren 1550 in Vicenza; gestorben 1635 in Valence) war ein italienischer Jurist und aristotelischer Gelehrter. (.) Er war in ganz Europa berühmt. Rufe erreichten ihn von Universitäten in Holland, Frankreich und Italien. Wie Ross es im Vorwort zu seiner Übersetzung der logischen Werke (der Standard-Oxford-Ausgabe) ausdrückt: "Meine wichtigste Autorität in Fragen der Interpretation war Pacius." Bis heute ist ein angemessenes Studium des "Organon" des Aristoteles - und der "Isagoge" des Porphyrios - ohne Hinweise auf Pace, seine Wiedergabe des Textes und seine Interpretationen desselben undenkbar. Der berühmte "Porphyrbaum" oder "arbor porphyriana", der als Standarddarstellung der Grundlagen des aristotelischen Denkens in die Geschichte eingegangen ist, wurde von Porphyrios in seiner "Isagoge" vorgestellt, die seit der Antike Aristoteles' "Ornanon" als Begleitbaum begleitet Einführung davon. Die Standarddarstellung dieses Baumes ist die von Pace in der vorliegenden Ausgabe auf S. 9. Es ist die Wiedergabe davon, mit gelegentlichen geringfügigen Änderungen, was seit 1584 Standard geblieben ist. Das, was wir seit der Antike das "Organon" nennen, umfasst die logischen Werke des Aristoteles: 1. Kategorien, 2. Zur Interpretation, 3. Prior Analytics, 4. Posterior Analytics, 5. Topics, 6. Zu den sophistischen Widerlegungen - die seit der Spätantike/dem Frühmittelalter von Porphyrios' (233/34-ca.310) begleitet werden "Isagoge", seine Einführung in die "Kategorien" des Aristoteles. Während der Renaissance enthielten alle Ausgaben des "Organon" des Aristoteles auch die "Isagoge" des Porphyrios, die für das Verständnis der Logik des Aristoteles als notwendig erachtet wurde. Die Logik des Aristoteles hat in der Geschichte des westlichen Denkens eine entscheidende Rolle gespielt. Keine andere Schriftensammlung hat die Geschichte der Philosophie so stark geprägt wie das "Organon", eine bis heute zentrale Wirkung. "Die Logik des Aristoteles, insbesondere seine Theorie des Syllogismus, hatte einen beispiellosen Einfluss auf die Geschichte des westlichen Denkens." (SEP).Aus der Antike hatte das frühere Mittelalter Boethius' Übersetzung der beiden ersten Abhandlungen von Aristoteles' "Organon" sowie Porphyrios' "Isagoge" geerbt. Diese Werke bildeten bis zum Ende des 11. Jahrhunderts die Grundlage für logisches Studium und Lehren. Erst im 12. und 13. Jahrhundert wurden die Schriften des Aristoteles - zusammen mit denen der arabischen und einiger griechischer Kommentatoren - ins Lateinische übersetzt. Als die mittelalterlichen Universitäten im 13. Jahrhundert ihre volle Entwicklung erreichten, wurden die Werke des Aristoteles als Standardlehrbücher für alle philosophischen Disziplinen übernommen - daher entsprechen moderne Begriffe für viele philosophische und wissenschaftliche Disziplinen den Titeln der Werke des Aristoteles (z. B. Ethik, Physik, Metaphysik). . ). Durch die Werke des Aristoteles erlangte der Westen somit nicht nur die spezifischen Probleme und Ideen, die an den Universitäten behandelt wurden, sondern auch die Terminologie, mit der sie beschrieben und diskutiert wurden, sowie den systematischen Rahmen, innerhalb dessen alle relevanten Probleme behandelt werden sollten und konnten. Aber mit der Renaissance sehen wir eine deutliche Veränderung in der Verwendung der Werke des Aristoteles. Wir erleben hier etwas anderes als eine bloße Fortsetzung des spätmittelalterlichen Aristotelismus. Die Humanisten begannen mit der Bereitstellung neuer Übersetzungen der Werke des Aristoteles und übersetzten alle griechischen Kommentatoren des Aristotele.

In Valence lebte Pacius bis zu seinem Tode. Er verehrte den Experten für römisches Recht Jacques Cujas und pflegte Kontakte zu dem deutschen Juristen Caspar Michael Welsch. Er war in ganz Europa berühmt. Rufe erreichten ihn von Universitäten in Holland, Frankreich und Italien.
