Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. New and Revised Edition. Date does not appear on title page, but in his Preface to this Second Edition, dated January 1885, the author notes that "the first edition [1883].having been exhausted in a few months," this one came out as soon as his time allowed. It has been cut do…wn from xvi + 250 pages to ix + 95 pages and was intended for a more general, less scholarly audience, but with no essential materials eliminated, as the author himself insists. There are excellent foldouts of pyramid cutaways in the back of the book, fully intact. The binding is fairly solid, but not perfect, and three attached pages in the front are detached from the rest of the book. There are no underlinings, but a few small markings, a tiny bookplate and a bit of foxing in the very front. The front cover has dark brown lettering in capitals and a symbol over a medium brown background. The spine and back cover are plain. Deckle edged. The cover has occasional small bumps along its perimeter, making it uneven in places. Pictures can be supplied. Any edition of this book before about 1910 is quite rare. The larger 1883 edition being currently offered from Leeds, UK has marbled boards which, while quite attractive, are likely not original. It also has faint library stamps.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 208, xx, [1] ; illustrated, 4 in color ; 21 cm. ; John Horace McFarland (1859-1948) was an American master printer and horticulturist. Throughout his career, he advocated for civic beautification, and he became a leader in the conservation movement of the early twentieth century. His…wide-ranging achievements made a lasting impact on printing processes, horticulture, and environmental protection. During McFarland's early years, his father operated a nursery and a small weekly newspaper in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. McFarland worked in both of his father's businesses as a youth. These early experiences instilled the passion for horticultural beauty and the business expertise that distinguished him personally and professionally. He eventually purchased his father's press. Combining the skills learned from these early experiences, he established a successful printing company of his own. He founded the J. Horace McFarland Company/Mount Pleasant Press, specializing in seed catalogs and nursery trade publications. Over the course of his lifetime, McFarland wrote and lectured extensively on horticulture, printing methods, and civic improvement. McFarland was a prominent member of the American Rose Society. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Collectible-Very Good. First Edition. vii, 38 pages + 62 plates, many folding. Folio. First edition. Riqqeh and Memphis VI is one of a series of books published to report the findings of the British School of Archaeology in Egypt. Much of the work was performed by Reginald Engelbach, an engineer turned Egy…ptologist, and Sir Flinders Petrie, holder of the first chair of Egyptology in England. The artifacts they discovered, many of which are pictured in this volume, form significant parts of the archaeological holdings of the Egyptian Museum of Cairo and the British Museum. The book is clean and tight, with a faint and shallow (1/8 inch) line of water stain at the top of the rear cover and the top margin of the last 3 plates in the book; there also is some staining on the spine that does not obscure the still bright gilt title. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Book.
