The Late Crown Princess of Sweden, nee Princess Margaret of Connaught (1882-1920) was the eldest daughter of Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught and Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia. In 1905 she married Prince Gustaf Adolf, future King Gustaf VI of Sweden. She was known for her interest in photography, painting and horticulture. With her husband she cultivated the celebrated gardens at Sofiero Palace near Helsingborg in Sweden. She died from sepsis in 1920. Leather. Condizione: Good. A very scarce facsimile of Queen Elizabeth I's manuscript translation of a French poem by Marguerite de Navarre. Very scarce work. A facsimile of Queen Elizabeth I's translation of Marguerite d'Angouleme's 1531 poem 'Miroir de l"ame Pecheresse'. This facsimile was produced for the Royal Society of Lite…rature of the United Kingdom. Elizabeth translated this poem in 1544, when she was just eleven years old. The translation was produced in a unique embroidered manuscript book, which Elizabeth gifted to her step mother, Katherine Parr. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and one-hundred and thirty-two plates, the majority of which show the faithful facsimile of Elizabeth's own manuscript and her handwriting. Collated complete. In the original half calf binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. Small cracks to the joints with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Further spotting and minor age toning to the endpapers. Good. None (illustratore). book.

Both items in good condition, with minor signs of age and wear. The black and white photographic print is 24.5 x 19.5 cm, and depicts a chubby Hall, in shirtsleeves and tie, leaning over a seat at the back of a darkened theatre, with a positive look of concentration on his face, as he stares at the stage, a playscript in his han…d. The reverse carries two stamps by 'Tony Armstrong Jones, one of them declaring his copyright. Also on the reverse are pencil calculations of dimensions for cropping for publication. The invoice, on the printed letterhead of Armstrong Jones Ltd., is made out by Armstrong Jones to 'Mr Kitchin | 4, Park Hill, | Croons Hill, | S.E.10.' It charges five guineas 'Copyright Fee - | Peter Hall: 2756 - B 8' and 10s 6d for the '10 x 8 Print'. While the National Portrait Gallery possesses a portrait of Hall by Snowdon from 1981 (NPG P1881), the present image is not to be found in its collection.

Receipt for a gift of 200,000 francs by Marc Favrat, of the complete wardrobe of the deceased Princess Elisabeth of Romania, former Queen of Greece, as well as some furs coats, objects of emotional value, and personal belongings from the villa "Rosalba" in Cannes, taken with them to their future domicile with Prin…ce Nicholas of Romania in Madrid: "De plus, S. A. R. nous a fait comme cadeau 'don' de la garde-robe complète de S. M. la Reine Elisabetha ainsi que certaines fourrures, et divers objets dont nous étions attachés [.]". - Together with the Princess's lover Marc Favrat, the Breckner sisters were among the servants and circle around Elisabeth of Romania (1894-1956) who stayed with her until the end. Elisabeth had settled in Cannes some years after her expulsion from Romania in 1947, when the Romanian People's Republic was proclaimed. In France she met the much younger aspiring artist Favrat, who became her lover and whom she made her equerry and adopted son in the year of her death. - With blind-embossed letterhead "Maison civile en France de S. M. la Reine Elisabeth".
