Circa 1880 Ernest Vizetelly translated the 4th volume of Zola's Les Rougon-Macquart sequence into English under the more faithfully worded The Conquest of Plassans. In 1957 Brian Rhys published this 'more modern' re-translation. This edition of the Rhys translation was published in the 1960's as part of a uniform edition of the Rougon-Macquart cycle.
