"Pinacotheca imaginum illustrium" ist Rossis Hauptwerk, es erschien zuerst 1643, erlebte zahlreiche Auflagen und gilt als eines der frühesten Beispiele der italienischen Literaturgeschichte. Der im Buch fehlende Porträtstich wurde durch eine Kopie auf altem Papier ersetzt. Auf der Titelei wurde das Pseudonym von alter Hand nicht ganz richtig aufgelöst "Johannis Victoris Roscii".
