Having acquired basic skills in photography on his own as a child, he documented many of his father's works. A visit by May Ray in 1929 opened Schwitters's eyes to avant-garde experimentation. He developed the technique of the "classical photogram" and was soon showing his abstract works with success at international exhibitions. In the late forties and fifties - following his return from exile in England - he was regarded as one of Norway's leading photographers. Featuring a selection comprised primarily of previously unpublished photographs, this book offers the first broad overview of the photographic art of Ernst Schwitters.
