Book design by Franti?ek Muzika, with drawings by Josef ?ima. ?ima (1891-1971) was a painter and graphic artist who moved to Paris in 1921 for life but interacted regularly in the Czech book publishing world through the 1940s. He also founded the Kmen modern publishing club and bookstore, the central locus of Czech literary modernism in Prague. Josef ?ima (1891-1971) spent most of his mature years in France, but collaborated frequently with the Aventinum press in a series of important editions as illustrator during rhe interwar era. Venus with a Red Wig is a loose continuation of the book Lide z baru (People from the Bar), which ?íma also illustrated. For Venus, ?íma drew fourteen ink pen-and-ink drawings that, with their lightness and lyricism (in several drawings with an erotic accent), elevate the verses of the author.
