Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Excellent. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. First Edition. Scarce First Printing of this iconic novel. First Printing [Heinemann, London, 1963]; octavo; [iv], 258, [2 blank] pages, original black papered boards, previous owner details in pen & dealer prices in pencil, light creasing to some page corners due to being folded over, mark to page edges, an excellent copy; in the very good dustjacket, creased & chipped along edges with some loss of "Victoria" at head & "Heinemann" at foot of spine, front foldover edge creased. Plath's only novel, this First Edition of "The Bell Jar" was published just one month before her death. Published under the pseudonym Victoria Lucas [due to the semi-autobiographical nature of the book & the unfavourable depiction of Esther Greenwood's mother, Plath insisted on a pseudonym & the book not to be published in her native US to avoid upsetting her own mother]. According to Heinemann "we only did a token quantity" of this first print run [Tabor, pp14]. This is said to indicate fewer than 2,000 copies printed. Cover design by Thomas Simmonds [who was also responsible for the iconic cover art on the UK edition of "Jaws"]. From the Melanie Smith collection of Sylvia Plath books.
