Der Regisseur Vladimír Sís (1925-2001) und der Kameramann Josef Vani (1927-2009) wurden im Jahre 1953 vom "Tschecheslowakischen Armeefilm" nach China geschickt, um dort einen Dokumentarfilm über den Bau der Straße von der Provinz Szetschuan bis in die Hauptstadt Tibets zu drehen. Während der Dreharbeiten mit der Filmkamera haben sie zwischen 1954 und 55 auch Hunderte von Fotoaufnahmen gemacht. Bound in cloth covered hard boards with pictorial dust jacket and in the original publisher's slipcase. Czech film makers, Vladimir Sis (1925-2001) and Josef Vanis (1927-2009), were the first Western visitors permitted to enter Tibet in three years when they stayed there for ten months in years 1954 to 1955. They produced a film on the building of the strategic military road from Ya-an to Lhasa as well as capturing the images for this book. Given the historical context of their trip to Tibet, this is an important and unique record of the region in the mid-1950's. Fine condition book in Near Fine jacket. The slipcase is solid but tanned to the edges.
