L'edizione raccoglie la «Marcia funebre per un uccellino…», la «Marcia nuziale per un coccodrillo» e la «Marcia militare per le formiche». Lo spartito è datato in fine «dicembre 1920». -- «La compagnia di Van Doesburg, molto interessata alla musica d'avanguardia italiana, restò poi in contatto con Rieti e accolse con entusiasmo la partitura delle 'Tre marcie' che il compositore le inviò da Roma. Il 23 settembre 1922, nel corso di una serata dada organizzata da Tzara all'Hotel Furstenhof di Wiemar, in occasione del congresso d'artisti d'avanguardi, Nelly eseguì così al piano le 'Tre marcie' di Rieti davanti a un gruppo di dadaisti e costruttivisti, di cui faceva parte anche il futurista Vasari, riportando un grande successo» (Lista). Laid in is a letter from Madame Monnet to Rieti presenting this book to him. Rieti was a contributor. Other contributions came from Freya Stark, Peter Ustinov, F. Furet, Henri Monnet (a poem), Soulina Straviinsky, Commandant Fourier, Claude Levi-Strauss, Alys Bine. For his efforts fighting the German occupiers, Monnet was awarded the Croix de Guerre in both World Wars, also. the Medal of the Resistance, and Commander of the Legion of Honor.

The four Lawrence poems are Aware, Thomas Earp, December Night and Quite Forsaken. Vittorio Rieti (1898-1994) began his studies in his native Italy. He had links with Berg and Schoe…nberg and his early work was influenced by their atonal experimentation. Between 1925 and 1940 he divided his time between Paris and Rome and adopted a more tonal, neo-classical style, writing ballet music for Diaghelev. In 1940, he moved to America where he remained for the rest of his life combining composition with teaching. These Lawrence settings were composed for and dedicated to the Queens College Choral Society where Rieti taught between 1955 and 1960. "Rieti's oeuvre stands apart in its specific clarity, gaiety and sophistication of a kind only he possesses; yet it hides a good deal of melancholia".

Di particolare interesse le annotazioni a matita redatte in francese: '.type d'homme serieux convaincu de sa mission. vieilli par les luttes . mais un esprit futuriste cubiste.'. Nel testo si citano le altre esibizioni fatte in Italia del celebre melodramma di Schonberg a Roma, Firenze, Padova, Venezia e Torino. In calce si legge che con la circolare viene inviato l'opuscolo a commento del lavoro di Schonberg e che essendo limitate le copie a disposizione, queste non verranno distribuite in sala. Oltre alla prima italiana del celebre melodramma, eseguito dal quartetto 'pro arte' di Bruxelles, veniva anche annunciata l'esecuzione del concerto per archi di Casella da questo appenaÂterminato. Il libretto prima citatoÂsi compone di una introduzione di Casella dedicata alÂPierrot Lunaire, una biografiaÂdi Schonberg scritta dal compositore Rieti e il testo delle liriche tradotte Raissa Olkienizkala Naldi. Il Pierrot Lunaire e' forse la composizione piu' nota di Schonberg e considerata una sorta di manifesto dell'espressionismo musicale. Venne rappresentata per la prima volta a BerlinoÂnel 1912. La corporazione delle nuove musiche venne fondata nel 1923Âe fece entrare l'italia nell'ambito internazionale della musica sperimentale. ITA.
