The essential oils are extracted by hydrodistillation and steam distillation. The chemical composition of the essential oils is determined by coupling gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The antibacterial activity is tested against four reference strains using the micro-dilution method on microplate. The antioxidant power is estimated by the capacity of the oils to trap the DPPH radical. This study, which is based on data collected at three meteorological stations, namely Gisenyi, Kamembe in Rwanda and Lwiro in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has made it possible to calculate a certain number of indices, in particular the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), the Rainfall Deficit Index (IDP), the Rainfall Index (IP) and the Drought Index (SI). These indices revealed the extreme variability of rainfall in the Lake Kivu basin.
