Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The impact of climatic change on human affairs has been demonstrated dramatically in past years. Climatic extremes have placed increasing pressure on world food supplies leading to a doubling, then trebling, of grain prices during the 1970s. Moreover, there is mounting concern that society itself may soon bring about an unparalleled climatic shift by atmospheric pollution and changing land use. In order to deal wisely with the Earth's limited natural resources and to assess society's potential to alter future climate, more information is needed about the course of past climatic change. Climate from Tree Rings brings together basic accounts of the methodology, techniques, available data and potential of dendroclimatology, the reconstruction of past climates from tree rings. The material presented in this volume, first published in 1982, represents a major step in the reconstruction of the past climatic record. It will be of particular interest to research workers, postgraduates, and advanced graduates in many branches of the atmospheric, earth and life sciences, especially those with an interest in climatic change and palaeoenviornments.

An exhibition held at the Grolier Club from 14 September through 19 November 2005, drawn largely from the Sylvia Plath Collection at Smith College and the Ted Hughes Papers and Library at Emory University. On the front free endpaper is the ownership signature of Frieda Hughes, the daughter of the two poets who were the subjects of the exhibition. She received this copy on the occasion of a celebratory luncheon where she gave a talk based on her memories. It is signed on the title-page by Stephen C. Enniss and on the half-title by seventeen attendees, most of whom seem to be Emory teaching staff or alumni. Loosely inserted is a print-out of two colour photographs of bears, together with a manuscript note by Frieda Hughes, explaining, ''The book designer saw a male and female bear in his garden as he designed the book - he felt this was a good omen. He gave me the photos at the Emory dinner on 13/9/05''. One can't help thinking that Ted Hughes would have agreed with the designer.Fine. No dustwrapper issued.
